Frequently asked questions
For anyone evaluating Doclayer before installing: what it does, how it fails, what it costs, what it can see.
The questions teams ask before installing. If yours is not here, email info@doclayer.ai.
What it does
What does Doclayer actually do?
It reviews a set of documents against a set of questions you write, inside monday.com. Each document is a row, each question a column, and each cell holds a short answer with a citation to the page it came from. You mark each cell Clear, Issue or Question, then publish the Issues and Questions to the board as items. The method is described on what is tabular document review.
Is it a chatbot?
No. There is no chat. You write questions once, they are applied to every document in the same order, and the answers sit in a table you can compare, export and publish. That is deliberate: a table is a record of a review; a chat transcript is not.
Does it draft documents or do legal research?
No. It reviews documents you give it. It does not draft, redline, or search case law.
What kinds of documents is it for?
Any collection where the same questions apply to every file: contracts in a data room, a portfolio of leases, supplier agreements, insurance policies, grant reports, RFP responses, internal policies checked against a regulation. Legal and M&A diligence is where it started, not where it stops.
Accuracy and evidence
How accurate are the answers?
Accurate enough to be worth checking, not accurate enough to skip checking. That is why every cell carries a citation and the source passage opens beside the answer. Treat a cell as a claim with its evidence attached; the reviewer decides. Doclayer's own qualification runs on public contracts are recorded in its repository and are the honest basis for that answer.
What does a citation mean?
A citation points to a passage in one of the selected documents, identified by document and page. The model can only cite passages the server already holds from those documents, so a citation is never to text that is not in the review. Open it and you see the exact excerpt.
What does "insufficient evidence" mean?
The selected documents do not support an answer to that question. It is not a no. A contract with no change-of-control clause will show insufficient evidence for a change-of-control question, and that is the right result: the reviewer now knows to look elsewhere or ask the counterparty.
Can it make things up?
It cannot cite text that is not in the documents, and an unsupported answer is reported as insufficient evidence rather than filled in. It can still misread a passage or pick the wrong one, which is why the citation is there and why a person makes the decision on each cell.
Does it work on scanned documents?
Yes. Scanned PDFs and images go through OCR before review. Quality depends on the scan; a faint fax will give worse answers than a clean PDF, and the citation will show you the passage it read.
Which languages does it support?
English is the supported and tested language. Other languages may work but are not qualified, and the answer quality has not been measured for them.
Files and limits
Which file types does it accept?
PDF, Word (DOCX and ODT), Excel, PowerPoint, plain text, CSV and JSON, and scanned images (PNG, JPEG, TIFF, GIF, BMP) via OCR. Anything else is rejected with a clear message rather than processed badly.
How many questions can a review have?
Up to 15 per review. Keep each question to one fact, so the answers line up across documents.
How long can a document be?
Up to 100 pages per document on the Essential and Team plans and 200 on Business and Deal. The trial allows 30 pages per document and 300 pages in total. A text file counts one page per 3,000 characters.
What happens if a document changes?
Rerun that document on its own. Its row is refreshed, the rest of the table is untouched, and republishing updates the existing board items instead of creating duplicates. A rerun uses another Review Unit for that document.
monday.com
What does it add to my board?
Two views: a board view (Doclayer Matrix) that holds the review table, and an item view (Doclayer Project) that opens one item's review from inside the item. The walkthrough is on the monday.com page.
Which files can it see?
Only the files someone selects for a review, from the connected board, plus anything uploaded directly into the review. It does not scan boards, and it does not read files nobody has chosen.
What permissions does it ask for?
Seven OAuth scopes, each tied to one action in the workflow: reading the board and its assets, reading updates, writing the approved items and updates back, and reading the account and user to bind the installation. The full list is on the security page.
Who can set it up, and who can use it?
An account administrator authorizes the app once per monday account. After that, members enter from the board without a separate Doclayer login. monday Viewers get a read-only view: they can open the table and the evidence but cannot add, run, export or publish.
Does it write to my board without asking?
No. The only writes are the Issues, Questions and export files a reviewer chooses to publish.
Does it work with monday automations?
Not yet. A review is started by a person from the board view. Automation triggers are on the roadmap but not shipped, and this page will say so when that changes.
Pricing
How is it priced?
Per reviewed document, not per seat. A plan covers one monday account and everyone authorized on it, and includes a monthly allowance of Review Units. One Review Unit is one document through one review of up to 15 questions. Plans and the trial are on the pricing page.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. Every new monday account gets 10 Review Units over 14 days, with the trial page limits. No card is needed to start; plans are bought through the monday Marketplace when you are ready.
Do unused units carry over?
Monthly unused units roll over, up to twice the plan's monthly allowance. Annual plans pool the year's units.
Does adding a colleague cost more?
No. Every plan covers unlimited authorized collaborators on the monday account.
Data and security
Are my documents used to train AI models?
No. Customer documents are not used to train general-purpose models, are not sold, and are not used for advertising.
Where is the data stored?
On Scaleway in the European Union. Cited answers are generated by sending the relevant passages to the model provider listed on the subprocessors page, with provider-side retention disabled where the provider offers that control.
What happens when I uninstall?
The connection is disabled immediately and the stored credential is removed. All installation data, including documents, derived text, indexes and results, is permanently deleted within 10 days. An administrator can also request deletion at any time; see data deletion.
Is Doclayer SOC 2 certified?
Not yet. The controls are described on the security page, and a security questionnaire can be completed on request.
Support
How do I get help?
Email info@doclayer.ai with the monday account and board names, what you were doing, and any error message. Do not send documents or tokens. Setup steps are on the support page.
Who makes Doclayer?
An independent developer, not a large vendor. That means a short line to the person who built it, a public roadmap, and no sales process. It also means no 24-hour phone support; email is answered by a person.
